a unique blend of personal and professional
Hello! My name Aisling Clare Niestroy. I was born in San Antonio, Texas, went to high school in Karnes City, and now live in the San Marcos/Austin area. I started attending Texas State University in the fall of 2008. Four and a half years later, I graduated with a B.A. in Mass Communication – Journalism and a B.F.A. in Theatre. After graduating, the only thing I knew for sure was that I wanted to focus on journalism. I decided I hadn’t gained enough experience in my field, so I applied for graduate school and I got in!
I am now a second-year graduate student in the digital media program at Texas State University. I currently work as a graduate teaching assistant for the School of Journalism & Mass Communication. As a GTA, I instruct weekly labs for Prof. Kym Fox’s undergraduate Writing for the Mass Media class. In addition, I became teacher of record at the beginning of the semester, and now instruct my own section of the same course. I’ve learned more than I ever imagined I would from teaching these students, and I look forward to the rest of my experience. I have been president of the Mass Communication Graduate Student Association since Spring 2014, where I organize and conduct meetings, and initiate community service projects and other group activities. I also started writing and editing for Daily Infographic in the last year, and have focused on building my personal brand.
I’m still not 100 percent sure what I want to do when I graduate because I have a lot of loves in journalism. I’ve always loved editing and design, travel writing, and everything having to do with magazine production. As my field has evolved and taken over the Internet, I’ve developed a love of all things online and social media. Needless to say, I’m eager to continue on this journey.
